We are committed, and do everything possible, to make every student, who attends this school, ready for high school, college & career.
We have over 30 after school activities for students - ranging from clubs to Student Council to sports to Head-2-Head............There is something for everyone.
We value and promote student community service. Special projects such as the Pajama Game, or collections for the Salvation Army, Wounded Warrior Project, and Humane Society are just a sampling. Many students also serve their school-mates as WEB (mentoring) leaders.
We promote a healthy lifestyle for students through the Project Healthy Schools initative developed by the University of Michigan and Blue Cross. Handy is an original member school, chosen by U of M, and the first middle school. PHS provides thousands of dollars in grant assistance to help Handy students make healthy lifestyle choices.
We offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL students, courtesy of grant programs.
We are technology strong! There are 4 computer labs, plus sets of tablets/laptops on carts. Our building is "wireless". Projectors, document cameras and MoBi's are in classrooms. We also have digital and video cameras, CPS systems and other various technology used for instruction.
We are facility strong! Handy has a state of the art building that was completely renovated - offering our families the best middle school facility in the area. A great library, 2 gymnasiums, a pool, and an Auditorium are just a few of Handy's specialty areas. Rich in history and tradition, but also up-to-date.
We are staff strong! Highly qualified classroom teachers are joined by various support staff.
We participate in several wonderful grant opportunities, including Michigan State University's extension program for family cooking classes, MSU's Tech Wizards after-school program, Project Healthy Schools, and the 21st Century after school program for at-risk students.
